Quality, timeless architecture, and profitability. Foundations upon which the Buxton Group has built five decades of property industry success. We continue to reach further, to innovate, to lead. We encourage and attract like-minded partners to share in our boutique development projects.
Our projects span all market sectors, from high-end residential and affordable apartments, to commercial and industrial developments. Our pride in our accomplishments is underscored by numerous awards for excellence.
We create enduring assets for shareholders and private partners. And we build lasting partnerships. Together, we share the rewards of the success that comes from doing things well.
The Buxton Group was established in 1968 by its current Managing Director, Richard Buxton, and is 100% owned by Richard Buxton’s family business, Buxton Corporation.
From humble beginnings in residential renovations and extensions to luxury housing, the business graduated quickly to multi villa unit housing projects. After diversifying into property development during the 1970's to complement the construction business, Buxton completed a vast variety of financially successful residential and commercial projects.
By the 1990's, the companies were taking on large-scale developments, such as the $150M Anchorage Apartments in Port Melbourne and Becton’s Fawkner Towers in St Kilda Road. Also enjoying the Buxton commitment to quality were hotel projects such as Werribee Mansion and 100 Exhibition Street, and housing subdivisions such as Moonah Links in Rye and Delgany at Portsea. High-rise commercial and residential towers became part of the day to day construction and development business.
In the early 2000's the Group commenced development of its Rylands independent retirement apartment projects. Rylands of Kew and Hawthorn were sold to Stockland in 2007, but the Group retains the management business of Rylands of Brighton.
By 2008, Buxton Property, the development arm, was operating autonomously from Buxton Construction, and the following year the construction business was sold after 41 years in family control.
From its new corporate office in Prahran, the Group is currently developing three high-rise apartment projects; ‘Armada’ and ‘Waterside’ in Port Melbourne, and ‘Luna Apartments’ in St Kilda, comprising 239 apartments, 620 square metres of retail, with a capitalstion in excess of $160M.
The next decade promises new markets for our specialised boutique development business, building on a strong capital base with excellent internal rate of return (IRR) for the Group’s capitalisation and that of our joint venture partners, with higher interest returning to our private equity and investment fund investors.
The Group boasts its own unique team specialising in conceptual design and planning, finance, development management, and marketing, with outstanding support from independent project managers. Each project benefits from select architects, town planners, engineers of all disciplines, land and building surveyors, interior designers, and only the most experienced and financially sound building companies.
At Buxton, our philosophy is simple. We only undertake projects that we have the confidence, experience and financial capacity to deliver, without compromise to our exacting standards of quality and profitability.
